Google is set to launch its new fiber optic high speed internet service at a cost of $3,000 to $8,000 per home. The new internet device that boasts of being 100 times faster than other internet providers is being tested across lot of communities.
Google is asking all interested communities to submit an application form to help them decide where they should construct their network.
The flash mob took place at a basketball game to spread awareness of Google’s high-speed fiber-optic internet service to Columbia.
CoMo Fiber, a group supporting Columbia in the trial, hoisted 11,000 signs during the timeout of the game to raise community support.
According to members of CoMo Fiber, the results were satisfactory. Amberly Engert said, "I'm happy we got the information out so people can start submitting the applications".
“Schools are an important audience to target”, said John Clark, CoMo Fiber member.
March 26 is said to be the last date for submitting applications to Google.
